Would You Like To Maintain Your Sanity This Christmas?
Christmas is just around the corner. How did that happen? 5 days ago it seems like it was still summer! However, it will happen this week and we are rushing headlong towards the one day in the calender when over-indulgence takes over from all the restraint during the rest of the year.
How many times will the
words 'Oh go on then...it's Christmas' be heard across the UK?
I am sure various forms of the same excuse will be spoken across the globe.
Christmas can get us into real trouble with our good intentions, our
figure and our tempers. It should be a time of joy, togetherness and
peace. The reality is unfortunately often just the opposite. Many of
us put an incredible amount of pressure on ourselves to get the
mountains of food ready in time and all the presents bought, wrapped
and hidden. We are faced with the task of writing and sending out
loads of cards and still running our busy lives.
Then there is the Christmas Decoration and Tinkly Music Fatigue (CDTMF) that comes from shops pushing their stock from September onwards. Don't you think many of them are stealing the magic of Christmas by making it mediocre and commercial?
There are more serious problems too:
It can all get too much to handle and something has to give.

Being alone is made more acute when you think everyone else is with their families. Feelings of depression can set in and stay for a long time after the festive season. Being single at Christmas can just highlight the fact that everyone else seems to be happily in a couple.
If you are spending Christmas with your family, this is the time when relationship tensions can surface and arguments arise. The simmering cauldron of anger, disappointment and slights can become intense as we all come together in an often confined space and are expected to put on a happy face and a jolly attitude. By the time the initial excitement of Christmas Day is over, it can be a challenge to maintain harmony with your family members. You can feel like you are losing your sanity.
How are you going to resist all those mince pies, Christmas cake and chocolates? Are you dreading the moment when you step on the scales after Boxing Day? In olden days, people would have lean times during the year and Christmas was a time to feed yourself up, ready for the cold winter weather. Nowadays we can buy any type of food all year round and there really is no necessity any more to stock up on nourishment over Christmas. It is tradition which drives us to eat mountains of food and loads of alcohol. Will you beat yourself up about being unable to resist that extra helping of Christmas pudding?
Will you avoid looking in the mirror and find excuses to not wear your swimsuit or trunks to go and do some lengths in the pool?
